Barangay Gun-ob in Lapu-Lapu City has made a significant stride towards digital governance with the launch of its Barangay Integrated System (BIS), marking a key milestone in integrating technology into local government processes.
The system, which is connected to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), aims to streamline operations, improve service delivery, and enhance data accuracy. Barangay Captain Carl Steven Weigel highlighted that the shift from manual to digital processing has drastically reduced the time needed to complete administrative tasks from several days to just minutes.
During the VICTOR 13: 13th Visayas ICT Conference on August 29, 2025, Weigel introduced the system to the Oponganons, showcasing how it has transformed the barangayβs public service operations.
βThis digital leap in public service allows for faster document processing, more accurate resident records, and quicker, more efficient disaster response,β explained Weigel.
With a background in computer programming, Weigel prioritized the development of the BIS upon entering office, demonstrating Barangay Gun-obβs commitment to modern, efficient, and citizen-centered service.
